Rawley Judd Dent II, age 64 of Independence, Kansas died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with the Father Stephen Mahn Thapwa officiating. Burial will follow with Military Rites by the DewlinDix Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1186 in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Southeast Kansas detachment, Marine Corp League, AWOL or Catholic Youth Organization and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Rawley Judd Dent II was born September 11, 1946 in Washington, D.C. to Richard and Betsy Oliver Dent. Judd graduated from Cascia Hall High School, in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Tulsa University and received his law degree from Washburn University in 1975. He practiced law in Independence, Kansas, served as the Independence City Attorney and as county counselor and assistant Montgomery County Attorney. He also represented both the Independence High School and the Cherryvale High School. Judd also represented Independence Community College and served as an instructor of Business law at Independence Community College. Prior to moving to Independence he practiced law in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Dodge City, where he also served as city attorney. He was elected District Judge for Montgomery, and Chautauqua County and served for 12 years. In addition to his practice in western, Kansas, he served as both Dodge City and Bucklin municipal judge and county judge pro tem for Ford County. Judd was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a member of the DewlinDix Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1186 and he was a charter member and a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church. On July 14, 1990 Judd married Lisa Laforge in Independence, Kansas where they made their home. Survivors include his wife Lisa of the home two sons Lee Dent of Charleston, South Carolina and Logan Dent of Independence, Kansas one daughter Lexi Dent of Independence, Kansas two brothers Rod Dent of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Tracy Dent of Austin, Texas one sister Kim Schmidt of Gurnee, Illinois.
