Ramona Kay Boehme passed away peacefully Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Medical Lodge of Independence, Kansas.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Potts Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.
She was born on June 16, 1932 in St. John, Kansas to Clifford and Erma (Bunting) Keeler. At age 17, She married the love of her life, William Shannon Boehme. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1950 at St. John, Kansas. While living in Phoenix, Arizona daughter Rebecca Louise was born in 1952. After William served in the United States Navy, they moved to Valley Center, Kansas. Daughter Melinda Lee was born in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1957. Ramona and family moved to Lyons, Kansas when Bill was stationed there with the Kansas Highway Patrol, In 1959 until he was transferred to Independence, Kansas in 1967.
Ramona had a varied work history. Working in Probate Court as a clerk was her first job in Independence. Her retail career included working at Calvert's, Fashion Shoppe, Village Inn, Reese's Jewelry and Pelican Furniture. Ramona was an excellent sales woman who was known for her feisty nature and quick wit.
In retirement she developed a great love for quilting. Ramona helped start The Crazy Quilters Guild in Independence. She served as President in 1992. The whole family has been blessed with quilts. Ramona and Bill enjoyed many years of camping, mostly at Elk City State Park, where they could be found quilting and carving together. Ramona was also a member of the Mirza Shriner's Women's group and the ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
She will be missed by her husband, children, and grandchildren deeply. They will rest easy knowing that they will always be able to wrap up in her "legacy of love" quilts.
Ramona is survived by her husband, Bill of the home; daughter Rebecca Carpenter and husband Steve of Shawnee, Kansas, Daughter, Melinda Jones and husband Mike of Coffeyville, Kansas; four grandchildren, Tad Carpenter and wife Jessica, Matthew Jones and wife Karla, Meaghan Ward and husband Jarod, Marcus Jones and wife Shannon, Eight great grandchildren, Jayden Crawford, Paxton Crawford, Claire Jones, William Jones, Lucas Jones, Jacob Jones, Elsie Jones and Fletcher Jones. She also leaved behind a special companion to keep Bill company in their loyal dog Fritzie 3.
She is preceded in death by her Mother, Erma Keeler, Father Clifford Keeler, sister Norma Love and brother Harry Bill Keeler.
She will also be missed by the many wonderful employees of Medical Lodge of Independence and Kindred Hospice.
The family has suggested memorials to the Alzheimer's Foundation, the disease Ramona fought valiantly for 17 years. Contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
