Phyllis Jean (Trotter) Maugans

Phyllis was born July 7, 1930 to William and Daisy (Kettleman) Trotter.  She passed away at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the age of 92. The last several years she resided with her granddaughter Lacy King (Mickey) in Independence.

Services to honor Phyllis will be held on Friday, January 13th at 10am at Potts Chapel.  Visitation will be on Thursday, January 12th with the family receiving friends from 5pm-7pm.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Donald Reece Maugans, September 13, 1950.

She was employed by Southwestern Bell for 30+ years until she retired.  She got bored with retirement and went on to work at Wal-Mart for almost 15 years until finally retiring for good.

She bowled on several Bowling leagues in Independence and loved spending time with her grandchildren playing games.  She loved traveling, camping, and her most favorite things include going to play Bingo and to the Casinos in seek of the “big one”.

She was a member of the Grace Memorial United Methodist Church where she took all of her grandchildren to church on Sundays.  She was a lifetime member of the VFW #1186 Women’s Auxiliary.

She enjoyed going out to lunch and running around town with her friends.  Her days at home were spent with her numerous pets, most recently Bella and Mack.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, her daughters Karen Kay Walker and Peggy Jean Belt and her brother Edward Trotter (Bubby).

Phyllis is survived by her son, David Eugene Maugans, her granddaughters Lacy King (Mickey), Kari Walker, and Stacy Hines (Chris).  Son-in-law Larry Walker (Tracy).  Great-grandsons Drake King, Jordan Hines (Kaity), Karsen Akins, and Landry Hines.  Great-granddaughters Kaydn King, Lilly Hines, Jewelene, Harper, and Olivia Hines.
