Phyllis Jones

Phyllis Arden Jones, 82, of Independence passed away Saturday March 31, 2012 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Independence with Father Andrew Heiman officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Independence. Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m., to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Potts Chapel, Independence. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday April 3, 2012 at the Potts Chapel, Independence. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Andrews Catholic School and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel Independence. Phyllis was born December 29, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Faye Fred and Gertrude Trudy Van Der Veen Kruizinga. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from the Will Rodgers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On May 30, 1951 Phyllis was united in marriage to Donald L. Jones in Tulsa, Oklahoma and he survives at the home. Phyllis worked for American Air Lines until she married Donald. Phyllis also worked for Cotterills, Davis Shoes in Independence, as well as JC Pennys and for Independence U.S.D. 446 Food Service. She was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church as well as the Altar Society and was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Independence. Survivors include her husband, Donald Jones of the home two daughters, Suzanne McManus of Coffeyville, Kansas and Donna J. Meyer of Andover Kansas three sons Arthur Jones of Wichita, Kansas, Charles B. Jones of Caney, Kansas and Richard L. Jones of Perry, Kansas two brothers, Donald E. Kruizinga of Texas and Gerald L.Kruizinga of Montanna 12 grandchildren and 16 greatchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and one son Phillip E. Jones.
