Phyliss Mills

Phyllis G. Mills, 78, of Independence passed away Friday at the Jane Phillips Medical Center Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the First Christian Church with the Pastor Bill Booe officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence under the direction of the Potts Chapel Independence.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday June 18, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence.
The family has suggested memorials to the Alzheimers Association and contributions may be left at the Potts chapel.
Phyllis was born January 21, 1936 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Lynn and Dorothy Swalley Swearingen. She grew up in Independence and Graduated from Independence High School and received her Associate Degree from Independence Community College.
On November 17, 1956 in Independence, Kansas Phyllis was united in marriage to Beryl A. Mills and the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Independence. She was honored for her service on the Independence Public Library Board where she was instrumental in helping form their genealogy department. She was an accounting clerk for Pierce Pharmacy and a homemaker.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 57 years, Beryl Mills. Other survivors include her children, Deborah Troy Hagerman of Wichita, Ks, Amy Donley of Tulsa, Ok, David Bobbi Mills of Independence, and Phillip Tina Mills of Claremore, Ok grandchildren Mitchell Donley and Daniel Donley, Tulsa, Ok, Nicholas Julie Dailey, Independence, and Loni Toby Muninger of Olathe, Ks great grandsons Cohen Dailey, Independence, and Brady Muninger, Olathe, Ks brother Harold Charlene Swearingen, Independence, sister Diana Mark Melander, Topeka, Ks and many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by one sister Sharlin Thorton and her parents Lynn and Dorothy Swearingen.
