Paul Harvey Ranes age 79, of Caney, Kansas died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Sunnyside Cemetey with Reverend Gene Hester officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the American Heart Association and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Paul was born December 21, 1929 in Independence, Kansas to Harvey and Laura Shook Ranes. He grew up in Independence, Kansas and attended schools in Independence, Kansas. Paul served in the United States Air Force. On August 9, 1963 Paul married Margaret D. Flores in Brighton, Colorado. He worked in the Northglenn Police Department in Northglenn, Colorado for 17 years. After moving to Caney in 1989 Paul worked as a custodian for a short time at the Caney Valley High School. Paul was a Boy Scout Leader for the Salvation Army. Survivors include his wife Margaret of Caney, Kansas; three sons Jerry Ranes of Caney, Kansas, Glen Ranes of Kaleen, Texas and Anthony Ranes of Caney, Kansas; seven daughters Carla Lesslie of Delaware, Oklahoma, Pauline Caouette, Pat Lopez, Laura Winter all of Caney, Kansas, Kay Merritt Topeka, Kansas, Debbie Milholland of Caney, Kansas and Donna Swanson Haysville, Kansas; two sisters Ethel Cornett of Georgia and Catherine Murray of Coffeyville, Kansas; one brother Don Ranes of New Mexico and Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Barbara, granddaughter April and grandsons in law Donald Milholland.
