Patrick Townson, age 71, of Independence, Kansas died Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha, Kansas.
Patrick was born September 24, 1942 in Coffeyville, Kansas to George and Ruth Esther Townson. He graduated from Clark High School in Hammond, Indiana a suburb of Chicago. Patrick gained his computing skills in the 1960s and was a pioneer in the computing revolution as early as the late 1970s. He worked for Telecom Digest founded in August 21, 1981. Patrick was one of the early pioneers of the internet. He was active as early as 1981 laying the groundwork for what is now known as the internet. Some bits of code programmed by Pat will quietly continue on the internet for years if not forever.
Survivors include one brother Dan Townson and wife Kathy Jo of Chicago, Illinois nephews Chord townson and Justin Jones and a niece Jessica Jones.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Inurnment Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Epiphany Episcopal Church with the Pastor Gerald Eytcheson officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
