It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Mr. Otis Dale Pendergrass, age 75, on December 8th, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by the voices of all his children, their love, memories, and quiet laughter.
His was an ordinary life. He wanted no eulogy or big funeral, required no fuss or praise. This aversion came from the fear that the ordinary would be made to seem extraordinary and doing the right thing would be turned into something more than it was. Without doing either, it can be simply put that Dale was a man of God who worked hard, a breadwinner that provided, a husband that loved his wife, and a father that loved his children. His nature was humble and giving; and his heart, pure gold.
Survived by his sister, Cathy Beckner; son, Tim Pendergrass; daughter, Angie Friesz; daughter, Tammy Ott Cooper; son, Tommy Pendergrass; daughter, Kathy Pendergrass; son, Jon Pendergrass; son, Michael Pendergrass; daughter, Crystal Pendergrass; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his beloved mother, Catherine, and father, Lloyd Pendergrass; sister, Jessie McNeill; sister, Christine Ott; and brother, Herold Pendergrass.
There will be two gatherings held in honor of Dale. A public service on Thursday, December 14th, at New Life Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas at 5:00 PM. This will be followed by a potluck dinner. The second, a Celebration of Life and Reunions this Spring in Bremerton, Washington.
His children would like to extend their gratitude to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Program at CRMC. Thank you for your care and support during our father's death last few days. Online condolences my be left at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
