Otho R. Johnson, age 74 of Rural Cherryvale, Kansas died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at home in rural Cherryvale, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas with the Reverend Jeff Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Harmony Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 8:00 a.m., to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Hospice Care of Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Otho was born October 13, 1935 in Brosley, Missouri to Roscoe and Lectie Boyles Johnson. He grew up in the Brosley, Missouri area. Otho worked with the family as a share cropper. On March 23, 1970 Otho married Joyce Davis in Eureka, Kansas. The couple made their home in Beaumont, Kansas and later for eight years in DeSoto, Missouri. 1979 the couple moved back to Beaumont, Kansas and later in 1990 they moved to rural Cherryvale, Kansas. Otho worked for Highline Construction, he trained horses for American Royal, later worked for Gilbert Central in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas as a heavy equipment operator. He helped build the race track in Homestead, Florida and was a member of the Operators Union in St. Louis, Missouri. Survivors include six sons; Dolan Johnson of DeSoto, Missouri, Lloyd Johnson of Eureka, Kansas, Glynn Johnson of Emporia, Kansas, Ronnie Wells of Leon, Kansas, Jason Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Heath Johnson of El Dorado, Kansas; five daughters Sheila McClung of Lake Okachobe, Florida, Teresa Woodham of Ozark, Alabama, Jody McCollum of Fall River, Kansas, Terry Franks of Lakin, Kansas and Jamie Johnson of Rural Cherryvale, Kansas; 23 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; one brother Ruben Johnson of Bloomfield, Missouri; two sisters Ginny Colburn of Doniphan, Missouri and Mildred Kempsty of Detroit, Michigan
