Orval Kenneth Cookie Cook, age 83 of Independence, Kansas and formerly of Cedarvale, Kansas died Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Windsor Place Nursing Home in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, Penn and Magnolia in Independence, Kansas with Keith Springer officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church or the Veterans Administration and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Orval was born September 12, 1927 in Cedarvale, Kansas to James and Bertha Methany Cook. He was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers. He attended schools in Cedarvale, Kansas up to and including the 11th grade. He dropped out to join the United States Navy in September of 1944 and served his country until his discharge in February of 1946. In 1954 Orval married Beverly J. Kaiser Cook in Miami, Oklahoma and she survives of the home. Over the years Cookie drove a truck for many companies including: CocaCola, Bunny Bread, B C Jobbers and for the last 20 years before retirement for Best Beverage of Independence, Kansas. He was also employed for a short time by USD 446 as a custodian at the Junior High School Building. It was always said that Cookie could not go anywhere without someone recognizing him due to his many contacts with customers and the public. Orval was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas and enjoyed having coffee with his friends. Survivors include his wife Beverly of the home four children Venessa Alford and Stacy Andres both of Independence, Kansas, Jeffeory L. Cook of Allen, Texas and Sherry Nelson of Garfield, Arizona nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
