Ola Mae Darnell, 83, of Independence, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Bradford Place. Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2012 at Journey Church, 138 Catalpa, Independence, Kansas with Reverend Bob Darnell and Reverend Beryl Darnell, officiating. Friends may register from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Journey Church. Interment will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Potts Chapel. Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the Journey Church. Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Hospice Care of Kansas and they may be left at Potts Chapel. Ola Mae Darnell was born October 9, 1928 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Elisha Botts and Helen Hockett Botts. She grew up and lived most of her life in Independence and attended Independence schools, where she also received her GED. On December 25, 1945 in Independence she was united in marriage to Newton Darnell Jr. and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and enjoyed wood carving and wreath making. Survivors include seven sons, Beryl Darnell of Chillicothe, Missouri, Bobby Darnell of Wichita, Kansas, Danny Darnell of Little Rock, Arkansas, Fran Darnell of Heath, Arkansas, Laverne Darnell of Dearing, Kansas, David Darnell of Independence, Kansas, Tim Darnell of Springdale, Arkansas three daughters, Kay Malone of Farmington, New Mexico, Elva Lynn Cook of Neodesha, Kansas, Teressa Darnell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma one brother, Ike Botts of Texas two sisters, Avola Fitzwater of Texas, Ruby Pruitt of Arkansas numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Lee and Mark.
