Odell Johnson Jr.

Odell Johnson Jr., age 56, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Barker Sr. of the Pleas Temple of God officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Odell was born May 2, 1953 in Independence, Kansas to Odell Sr. and Lerlene Manning Johnson. Odell graduated from the Independence High School. He worked for the Santa Fe Railraod as a switchman and machine operator from 1971 to 2003. He was a member of the Maple Street Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons Chadd Johnson of Independence, Kansas, Kenyon Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma a step son Toriano Lands of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma one daughter Khunisia Johnson of Olathe, Kansas two brother Jerome Johnson of Olathe, Kansas and Kent Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma two half brothers Ladon Johnson of Wichita, Kansas and Wilbert Randall Tulsa, Oklahoma three sisters Sylvia Johnson of Chicago, Illinois, Claduell Johnsons of Port Allen, Louisiana and Gail Shobe of Houston, Texas one half sister Carolyn Sue Pettus of Kansas City, Missouri 8 grandchildren.
