Nona Jean Bennett, 79, of Independence, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital. A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00am, Monday August 15, 2011 at the Potts Chapel, Independence, with the Reverend Dale Cornett Officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm with family receiving friends from 4pm to 5pm, at the Potts Chapel, Independence. A Memorial has be set up to the First Baptist Church or the American Heart Association and may be left at the Potts Chapel. Jean was born May 24, 1932 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Robert B. and Nona Mae Shaw Donaldson. She grew up in Independence and attended the Independence School System District 446. On September 18, 1955 Jean was united in marriage to Bob Bennett in Independence, Kansas and he survives at the home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for several years she was also the secretary for the Sunday School class. Jean was in the Choir for several years and enjoyed singing at the Church. Survivors are Bob her husband of the home one son David W. Bennett and two daughters Kathy Jean Stone and Teresa Kay Louis all of Independence. Two sisters Roberta McGuire of Colo., and Betty McGuire of Independence, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
