Nicholas Bernard Bohr age 83, of Independence, passed away at his home with his family at his side on June 12, 2021.
Nicholas was born on May 25, 1938 in Groom, TX to Raphael and Anna (Hermesmeyer) Bohr. The family made their home in Cherryvale when he was just two years old and then on to Independence. Nicholas attended St. Andrews Catholic School from first grade to middle school where he started attending public schools graduating from Independence High School with the class of 56. Nicholas met Karen Thompson when they were in jr high, and the couple started dating and that ended up leading to a marriage of 62 years. They were united in marriage on April 4, 1959, to this union they were blessed two sons and a daughter. Nicholas worked various jobs; Electra, Rita Pump, Coca-Cola, and retiring from the Cement Plant. Nicholas was a prankster, he even drove himself to drivers ed every day, many rubber snakes were hidden to give a scare and his coworkers were always on their toes when he was around. He never bought something if there was a chance he could build it, he created many things out in his shop with his tools and especially his welder. Nicholas was a faithful member of the St Andrews Catholic Church where he was in the Knights of Columbus and the summer mowing crew for the rural cemeteries. He was big on helping his children with their 4-H and saddle club, they never considered themselves ranchers, but they did raise sheep, goats, horses, rabbits, calves, and hogs he just always said no chickens.
Nicholas’s memories will live on with his wife Karen of the home, sons Mark Bohr his wife Kay of Marshall, TX, and Ronnie Bohr of Independence, KS, daughter Diane Bohr of Independence, KS, grandchildren Brook Southards of Hutchison, KS and Brent Bohr of Independence, KS and great-grandchildren, Daxton and Charlee Bohr.
He now rests with his parents, brothers George, Francis, Elmer, and Jim Bohr and sister Lucy Lucas and three siblings lost in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at St Andrew Catholic Church. Visitation will be held the prior to the service starting at 9:30 with the Rosary being prayed at 10:30. The family suggests memorials be made payable to the St Andrew Catholic School and they may be sent in care of Potts Chapel 122 S Penn Ave. Independence, KS 67301.
