Nelda Kemp

November 10, 1935 — August 17, 2022

Independence

Nelda Rose (Prather) Kemp was born on November 10, 1935, in Independence, Kansas to Nellie (Stowe) and Jesse Prather. Independence is where Nelda spent most of her beautiful life. She later passed away in her home that her husband built in 1973 after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer, on August 17, 2022.

Nelda Kemp was a faithful woman, she graduated from the Bible Holiness School and was an active member in the Bible Holiness Church for many years and later attended the First United Methodist Church. She was an outstanding customer service representative for Cable Vision the majority of her career. Nelda was loved by the entire community, and she loved everyone she met. She married her true love, Bill Gene Kemp on February 18, 1956 and together they created an amazing life and family. Nelda then had her only child, Karla Jean, in 1957, and was later blessed with a wonderful granddaughter, Stacie, and three beautiful great-grandchildren, Levi, Rhylie, and Braxton.

Nelda Rose Kemp was the kindest and most loving woman, and everyone who met her vouched for this. She will forever be remembered by her notorious hobbies of camping, traveling, shopping, riding motorcycles, watching Hallmark Murder Mysteries, cheering on the NBA, reading, playing Scrabble with her grandkids, and doing crossword puzzles. Most of all, Nelda will be remembered for her dedication to her family. Her family was her entire world and she loved and cared for them unconditionally. She was everybody’s favorite person and made everyone feel just as special.

Nelda is survived by her granddaughter and son-in-law: Stacie and Scottie Garrett, two great-grandsons: Levi Kemp and Braxton Garrett, and one great-granddaughter: Rhylie Powell. She is preceded in death by her husband: Bill Kemp and daughter: Karla Kemp.
