Nadine Bruington, age 84, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Bolton Friends Church with Reverend Grady Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisonville Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Bolton Friends Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Nadine was born September 26, 1925 in Independence, Kansas to Hugh and Elsie Willenburg Biggs. She grew up in Independence, Kansas and South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. Nadine graduated from the Independence High School in 1945. She also graduated from the Independence Business College. Nadine worked for Layton Oil Company and for the Boy Scouts of America. She retired from the Catalytic Industries, and later for the Ash Youth Center. On March 7, 1948 Nadine married Carl Bruington in Oswego, Kansas and they made their home in Independence, Kansas. Carl preceded her in death in 1977. Nadine was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, The VFW ladies auxillary and the Bolton Friends Church. Survivors include one son Russell Bruington of rural Independence, Kansas; four daughters Kay Willard, Kathleen Crouch, Carol McKellips and Toni Bruington all of rural Independence, Kansas; two brothers Jim Biggs of Perry, Kansas and Hugh Biggs of Owasso, Oklahoma; one sister Joann Barrett of Port Orchid, Washington; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchildren.
