Independence

Myrtle Imogene Shamblin, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on July 30, 2023, in Independence, Kansas. She was born on July 25, 1939, in Altamont, Kansas, to the late Elmer and Leota Gingery.

Imogene was a woman full of warmth and love. Her kind-hearted nature touched the lives of everyone she met. She had a zest for life that was unparalleled and a passion for caring for others that knew no bounds. Imogene's legacy will forever live on through the memories she leaves behind.

Imogene's love for her family was immeasurable. She leaves behind a large and loving family. Imogene was previously married to Jack Shamblin and together they raised their children Jerry, Jackie, Jeffery, Jimmy, Diana, and Sheila. Her dedication to her family extended beyond her immediate kin as she cherished her 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Imogene had many treasured hobbies that brought her joy throughout her life. She had an undeniable talent for fishing and spent many peaceful hours casting her line into the water. Her love for cooking was legendary among family and friends as she delighted in preparing delicious meals for everyone to enjoy. Imogene's infectious laughter filled every room she entered and her smile could brighten even the darkest of days.

When not engaged in fishing expeditions or preparing mouthwatering feasts, Imogene found solace in watching game shows. She loved the thrill of guessing answers along with the contestants and would often shout out excitedly when she knew the right response. It was these simple pleasures that made Imogene truly content.

Friends and loved ones will have an opportunity to pay their respects during two solemn occasions held in honor of Imogene's remarkable life. A Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence on August 2, 2023. Starting at 5:00 PM, family and friends can gather together to remember Imogene, sharing stories and finding solace in each other's company. The Funeral Service will take place on August 3, 2023, at Lewark Church of God in Coffeyville, beginning at 10:00 AM. It will be a time for all who knew and loved Imogene to celebrate her life and bid their final farewells. Cremation will follow at a later date.

Imogene's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. However, she will always be remembered as a beacon of love and happiness. Her contagious spirit lives on through the cherished memories she created with her family and friends.

Those left to carry on her memory are her former husband Jack, sons Jerry, Jackie, Jeffery and daughter Shelia. Imogene was preceded in death by her parents, son Jimmy and daughter Diana.
