Myrtle A. Presson CHERRYVALEMyrtle Alice Presson, 93, of Cherryvale, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Independence. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 18, 2010 at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, with the family receiving friends from 78 p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 19, 2010 at the Cherryvale United Methodist Church with Pastor Dick Drumeller officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetary in Cherryvale under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Mrs. Presson was born on January 10, 1917 at Cherryvale, KS, the daughter of Robert N. and Nellie Davidson Miller. She graduated from Cherryvale High School and Pittsburg State Teachers College. She married Donald Max Presson on July 10, 1941 in Girard, KS. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1981. The couple lived in Washington D. C. before her husband left to serve in World War II. Mrs. Presson returned to her family home in Cherryvale and taught high school commerce. After her husband returned from the war, they made their home in Kansas City, KS where Mrs. Presson taught at Piper High School. In 1954, the family moved to Lees Summit, MO where Mrs. Presson taught elementary school for 24 years. After retiring in 1979, the couple moved to Cherryvale. Mrs. Presson was a member of the Cherryvale United Methodist Church. She had also been a member of DH Chapter of PEO, Civic Club, Wednesday Progress Club and Cherry Chums. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. Survivors include her son, Don, his wife Sally, and her daughter Jeannie, all of Cherryvale. Mrs. Presson had four grandchildren including, Kim and her husband Marvin Blaes of Cherryvale, Amy Presson of Lees Summit, MO, Don Max and his wife Jackie of Kansas City, MO, and Matt of Yukon, OK. Mrs Presson had three greatgrandchildren, Katie and Joe Blaes of Cherryvale, and Ben Blaes of Stillwater, OK. Mrs. Presson loved making quilts, watching KU basketball, and spending time with her family. Memorials are suggested to the Cherryvale United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
