Monica Sims

Monica Mickey Diane Murphy Sims was born November 23, 1957 in Borger, Texas, to James E. Murphy and Nancy A. Garrett Murphy. She spent her entire childhood in Caney, KS. During her younger years, she acquired the nickname, Mickey, which she preferred to use informally. Mickey graduated in 1977 from Caney Valley High School. On June 15, 1987 Mickey met and married the love of her life, Bill Sims, with whom she shared a wonderful 26 years of marriage.

Mickey loved anything involving the outdoors, from camping and fishing to taking a scenic motorcycle ride. She was a loving friend, and relative to many. Mickey was both firm and tender at the same time. She loved to cook and she enjoyed passing this skill on to anyone willing to learn. She adored children, especially her three children. Her husband and her children were her entire world.

Mickeys children who survive her are Courtney Sims, of Independence, KS. and Brandon Bowman, Niotaze, KS. Mickey joins in Heaven her son, Preston Murphy.

Mickey also joins in Heaven a brother, Pat Murphy her father, James E. Murphy and Grandparents Joe and Pauline Murphy. She is survived by her husband Bill of the home her Mother Nancy A. Murphy, Oswego, KS Sister Nan Teel and husband Rick of Oswego, KS Sister Kim Reid and husband Brad, of Beaver Lake, AR Sister Debby Dunn and husband Fred, of Lawson, MO Brother Jim and wife Barbara, of Clarksville, TN. a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be held at Potts Funeral home in Caney, KS., Friday December 6, 2013 with the family visitation from 67 pm. A celebration of Mickeys life will be held at Potts Funeral Home, Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Graveside will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, KS.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Assembly of God Church, 301 N. McGee St., Caney, KS.
