Mildred Marie Millie Winkler, age 78 of Independence, Kansas died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Regal Estates in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2011 at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Independence Garden Club or to FORPAZ and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Mildred Marie Winkler was born January 10, 1933 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to William Clarence and Lillian Marie Hoover House. She grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas. On February 12, 1949 Mildred married Elzie Winkler in Benton, Arkansas. He died in 1997. The couple moved to Independence, Kansas in 1952. Mildred worked at Montgomery Ward and ACC in Independence, Kansas. Survivors include one daughter Gayla Pouncey of Independence, Kansas three grandchildren Todd and wife Gena Hyatt of Topeka, Kansas, Justin Winkler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jacob Winkler of Yukon, Oklahoma three great grandchildren Eli Andrew Hyatt and Alyssa Marie Hyatt both of Topeka, Kansas and Kayli Lynn Winkler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma one brother James and wife Francis House of Pine Bluff, Arkansas one sister Vickie and husband Dwight Howard of Little Rock, Arkansas daughterinlaw Bethany Winkler of Yukon, OK brotherinlaw James and wife Pauline Winkler of Independence, Kansas. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elzie, Son Stephen Winkler, two brothers W.C. House and Charles House one sister Dorothy Wall.
