Michael Cornett

Michael Alan Cornett, age 55, of Independence, Kansas died Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Harrison Cemetery near Thayer, Kansas with the Reverend Steve Butler officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Michael was born August 25, 1953 in Spokane, Washington to Wallace Raymond and Mary Maxine Wenzl Cornett. He grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School. Michael served in the United States Army for four years serving in Desert Storm until his honorable discharge. Michael received his Associates Degree from Independence Community College and recently worked at Cessna in Independence, Kansas. He also volunteered at AWOL and was a past member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Survivors include his mother Mary Maxine Cornett of Rocheport, Missouri; one daughter LeAnn Shepard of Independence, Kansas; one brother Jim Cornett of Omaha, Arkansas; five sisters Dixie Yates of Rocheport, Missouri, Mary Ann Garner of Rocheport, Missouri, Janet Ramsey of Colwich, Kansas, Cindy Cornett of New Franklin, Missouri and Nancy Miller of Owasso, Oklahoma; two grandchildren.
