Independence, Kansas: Merle Dean Mavers, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 28 at Potts Chapel Independence, 122 S. Penn, beginning at 4:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be held 6:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 29 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Independence with Father Andrew Heiman officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Independence. Potts Chapel of Independence has been entrusted with arrangements. Merle was born on Monday, October 6, 1924 in Independence to parents Anthony and Theresa Weingart Mavers. Merle was raised and educated in Independence and after graduating he went on to serve our country honorably during WWII in the United States Army with the 117th infantry and participated in several major offensives including: Normandy, Ardens, and the Rhineland. After his discharge Merle returned home to start his life and in 1952 he met and married the love of his life Frances Lorene Jackson. Merle and Frances had a long and happy life together as they ranched and farmed their land and this past April they celebrated 60 years together. Merle was an incredibly generous man who would help anyone who needed it. Merle Dean Mavers was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. Merle was preceded in death by his parents sisters Treva Williams and Juanita Beach and brother Arthur Mavers. Merle is survived by his wife Frances Mavers of Independence son Dan Mavers of Independence daughter Cheryl Penrod of Coffeyville, Kansas daughter Deana Combs of Independence and son Tom Mavers of Independence brother Edgar Mavers of Independence nine grandchildren twelve great grandchildren numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
