It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Meredith Ann Housel, who departed this life on January 3, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on December 26, 1937, in Independence, Kansas, Meredith was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of those around her.
Meredith was raised alongside her older sister, Jo Aiken, and her two brothers, Dee Hattan and David Hattan, who shared many cherished memories of their upbringing. In 1956, she married Charles Howard Housel on the family farm in Independence, embarking on a journey filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising three children: Cynthia Allison, Clarence Housel, and Mark Housel.
Meredith dedicated her professional life to Southwestern Bell, where she worked tirelessly from before her marriage until her retirement. Her commitment to her career was matched only by her devotion to her family. She is survived by her brother, David Hatten, her daughter Cynthia Allison, her adoring grandchildren Sheree Smith and Clint Dean, and her five great-grandchildren: Ainsley, Jackson, Cooper, Parker, and Cole, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Hattan, Juanita Hattan, her beloved husband Charles Howard Housel, her siblings, Jo Aiken, Dee Hattan, her sons Clarence Housel, and Mark Housel.
To honor the memory of Meredith Ann Housel, a graveside service will be held on January 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Bethel Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Family and friends are invited to join together in a celebration of her extraordinary life as we gather to pay our respects and share stories of her unwavering spirit and love.
Her legacy of compassion, resilience, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
