Maxine Gail Smith Cain, age 61 of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at her home in Independence, Kansas. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.1 Private family services will be held at a later date. The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice Care of Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Maxine Gail Smith Cain was born July 3, 1949 in Hays, Kansas to Carroll Homer and Eva Anna Claycamp Smith. She grew up in Wakeeney, Kansas. Maxine graduated from High School in Boulder, Colorado. Maxine also got her certification as a Certified Professional Coder CPC. In 1974 Maxine married Vance K. Cain in Johnson, Kansas. The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas. The couple later divorced. Maxine worked for ARCO, and worked as a Medical Coder and later for Cessna in Independence, Kansas. She was also a Professional Photographer. Survivors include one son Nathan K. Cain of Independence, Kansas step daughter Angela Cain of Houston, Texas two brothers Stan and wife Francine Smith of Topeka, Kansas and Ron Smith of Catharine, Kansas one sister Kathy Smith Luttrell of Denver, Colorado significant other Paul Oakleaf of Independence, Kansas. Nephew David and wife Tasha Smith and their daughter Aubrey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Niece Kelly Luttrell Payne of Fort Havasau, Arizona, Niece Deanna Smith of Overland Park, Kansas, Nephew Gavin and wife Amy Fritton and their daughter Hope, Nephew Richard Fritton, great nephew Kai Polamas of Kauai, Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her parents and one niece Debby.
