Matthew Matt Harrison Smith, age 40, of Bonner Springs, Kansas and formally of Caney, Kansas died Monday, July 11, 2011 from injuries sustained from a fall. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dan DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Matthew Matt Harrison Smith was born June 25, 1971 in Caney, Kansas to Earl Eddie E. and Peggy Harrison Smith. Matt grew up in Caney, Kansas and graduated from the Caney High School in 1989. Matt worked in janitorial and construction, and for WalMart in Bonner Springs, Kansas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caney, Kansas and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his mother Peggy and step father Tony Smith of Caney, Kansas one sister Laura and husband Edgar Brooks of Caney, Kansas three brothers Adam and wife Brandi Smith of rural Copan, Oklahoma, Stacy Smith of Coffeyville, Kansas and Roger Smith of Caney, Kansas special friend Caryle Lorenz nieces Christian Smith and Lyric Brooks and one nephew C.J. Brooks three uncles Allen and wife Dottie Harrison of Canadian, Oklahoma, Charles and wife Beth Harrison of Topeka, Kansas and Jim Harrison of Van Buren Arkansas one aunt Charlotte Rogers of Caney, Kansas and many cousins. Matt was preceded in death by his father, 3 uncles and 1 aunt.
