Mary Ellen Ward, age 70, of Havana, Kansas, lost her battle with leukemia on September 1, 2012. Mary was born July 25, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Ruthy Harris and Thomas Emmons. She grew up in Missouri, married Walter F. Ward, and moved to Wayside, Kansas. They later divorced. Mary is survived by four children: Linda Ward Noner, Peru, Kansas, James Ward Traci, Caney, Kansas, Connie Ward Ben, Peru, Kansas, and Bobby Ward Samantha, Independence, Kansas eight grandchildren: Crystal, Justin, Tiffani, Travis, Bobby Jr., Walter, and Zack and two great grand children: Samantha and David her lifelong partner Mike Kerr sister Norma Cherry, brother David Smith numerous nieces and nephews Charlie her Yorkie, and several yard birds. She was known as mom or grandma to many. Mary was preceded in death by per parents, one son, David Ward and by one grand daughter, Katelyn. It can easily be said that Mary lived life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her family and friends to say that she loved to fish is an understatement. Mary enjoyed watching bullriding, crocheting, gardening, yard sales, and texting on her phone. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Harrisonville Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to Shelby Foreman for medical expenses and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas.
