Mary Martinez

Mary Martinez, 84, of Independence died Monday August 6, 2012 at the Mercy Hospital. Graveside Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 11, 2012 at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence with Father Andrew Heiman Officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel, Independence. Reciting of the Rosary will be held Friday at 7:00 p. m. at the Potts Chapel, Independence. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Andrews Legacy of Faith and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel Independence. Mary was born September 14, 1927 in Coffeyville, Kansas the daughter of Franciso and Margarita Lazaro Arroyo. She grew up in Coffeyville and attended the Coffeyville School System where she received her GED. On June 25, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Joseph F. Martinez and the couple made their home in Independence. Joseph survives at the home in Independence. Mary worked at Emerson Electric in the Die Cast Department until her retirement. She was a member of the St Andrew Catholic Church. Survivors include Joseph of the home in Independence, Kansas five sons Ceasar, Terry and Joel Martinez, all of Independence, Kansas and Mario and Trino Martinez, both of California four daughters, Lisa Flaig of Lawrence, Kansas, Yvonne Martinez of Lawrence, Kansas and Yvette Sumner and Genevieve Martinez, both of Independence, Kansas 20 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.
