Mary L. Lopez, 87, of Independence, passed away Monday at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday October 23, 2014 at the Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Independence, Kansas with Father Andrew Heiman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Independence.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with reciting of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at the Potts Chapel Independence following the Rosary, the family will be gathering at the Baldassaro residence located at 2813 Rolling Green, Independence, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Haynes Hospice of Coffeyville or the St. Andrew Catholic Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence.
Mary was born December 10, 1926 in Mound Valley, Kansas, the daughter of Jesus H. Hernandez and Loretto Leon. She grew up in Mound Valley and attended school in Mound Valley and Cherryvale, Kansas.
On June 26, 1948 in Independence, Kansas, Mary was united in Marriage to Frank Lopez and the couple made their home in Independence. Frank preceded her in death in 2003.
Mary worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for Four County Mental Health Center from which she retired.
She was a member of the St. Andrew Altar Society.
Survivors include three daughters Maryann Baldassaro and husband Mike of Independence, Ks., Frances Lickteig and husband Jim of Cherryvale, Ks., Marta Brown of Independence, Ks., three sons, Mario D. Lopez and wife JoAnn of Cherryvale, Ks., Mark R. Lopez and wife Michelle of Independence, Ks., Adam Lopez and wife Cindy of Independence, Ks., one brother Daniel Hernandez of Independence, Ks., seventeen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren .
