Mary Kathryn (Knoblock) Jones, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Nov 5. Mary was born Oct 8, 1923 in Burlington, KS to Jake and Dorothy Knoblock. She graduated valedictorian of Burlington HS in 1941, then taught grades 1 thru 8 at Pamos, Quaker and District 58 before marrying Denzell (Red) Jones in 1948. Red and Mary farmed in Montgomery County for many years, raising crops as well as cattle, chickens and hogs. In 1971 they began operating the Dairy Delite in Independence before building Red's Restaurant which they operated until 1989.
Mary was predeceased by her brother Chester Knoblock and her 2 sisters, Betty Mayo and Susie Goins. She is survived by her husband Red of 69 yrs, four children, Chet Jones (Zuni NM) and his son Donovan; Helen Conkling (Kansas City) and her daughters Jennifer Bates and Melissa Castillo; Mike Jones (Wichita Falls TX) and his sons Timothy Jones and Brian Jones; Kathy Hurst (Kingman Ks) and her daughter Sarah Hurst; as well as 6 great-grandchildren and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mary will be long loved and remembered for her beautiful smile, her kind and patient heart, her inquisitive mind, and her love of children, learning, and teaching.
Visitation will be at Potts Chapel in Independence at 10 am, Wed Nov 8 followed immediately by services at 11:00.
