Mary U. Gabbard, 74, of Cherryvale, Ks, passed away Thursday, June 23rd 2016 at Grand Villas Independence Ks,
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 29th 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Independence Ks. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 28th 2016, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with Rosary starting at 7:00 pm at St Andrews Catholic Church in Independence Ks.
Mary U. Gabbard was born August 25th 1941, in Amarillo, Texas. She was the daughter of John Leo and Addie L. (Leonard ) McCartney and was raised in Winfield, Kansas. Mary obtained her associate degree from the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith as a registered Nurse and worked for Mercy Health systems as an ICU nurse for 19 years before retiring in 1997.
Mary U. McCartney was united in marriage to Danny Gabbard on October 10th 1959 in Winfield Ks, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Danny preceded her in death on May 21st 2011.
Mary loved raising Labrador dogs, gardening and planting flowers but most of all she loved spending time with her loving family.
Mary is survived by three daughters; Patricia Cunningham and Deborah Kelley of Fort Smith Ark., Lori Knisley and husband Greg of Cherryvale Ks, one brother Steve and wife Maggie McCartney of East Helena, Montana, one sister Terri Short of Blackwell Ok, three grandchildren; Leighanne Armstrong of Edmond Ok, Andrew Schluterman of Fayetteville, Ark., William Cunningham of Alma Ark, and three great-grandchildren; Samantha Armstrong, Amelia Armstrong and Eliza Cunningham.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Danny and one brother James Robert McCartney.
Memorials can be left in Mary's name to the St. Andrews Catholic School and can be left with Potts Chapel of Independence Ks. Online condolences can be left to the Family by going to www.pottsfuneralhome.com .
