Marvin Leroy Wadsworth, 83 of Independence, Kansas passed away at Wesley Woodlawn in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

 

On January 31, 1940, Marvin was welcomed into this world in Mound Valley, Kansas to Mayo and Lena (Cox) Wadsworth. Marvin graduated from Mound Valley High School in 1958 and then entered the United States Army in 1963. After returning home from serving his country, Marvin married the love of his life, Patricia Swadley in Independence on June 4, 1965. The two welcomed two daughters, April and Tracey. Marvin worked at Automotive Controls Corporation for 42 years, retiring in 2012. Marvin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to spend his time outdoors, but most of all he loved the time he spent with his family, especially his two granddaughters, Emily and Janie and great-grandchildren, Briella, Noelle, and Liam. Marvin was a member of the Independence Gun Club for many years.

 

Marvin is preceded in death by his dear wife, Patricia, parents, Mayo and Lena, brother, Glenn Wadsworth, sister, Loretta Ellis, and nephews, Larry, Alan, and Kenny Ellis.

 

His legacy will carry on with his daughters, April and husband Roger Rutherford of Haysville, KS, Tracey and husband David Hillyard of Independence, KS, granddaughters, Emily and husband Jose Gutierrez of Wichita, KS, and Janie and husband Todd Stephenson of Newton, KS, and great-grandchildren, Briella Gutierrez, Noelle Stephenson, and Liam Stephenson and nieces Sarah Plisek, Velma West and Debbie Ellis.

 

Following Marvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel and the family will greet friends at Potts Chapel in Independence on Friday, June 30th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The family will then hold a private ceremony and lay Marvin and Patricia to rest at Mound Valley Cemetery on opening day of dove season, September 1st.
