Marvin Dean Rigdon, 80, of Rural Caney, Kansas died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at his home. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Tyro Christian Church, Tyro, Kansas with Pastor David Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Fawn Creek Cemetery, Tyro, Kansas, under the direction of Potts Chapel, Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts chapel in Caney. The family has suggested memorials to the Wayside Christian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney. Dean was born July 5, 1931 in Washington County, Oklahoma, the son of Frank A. and Waneta Fields Rigdon. He grew up in Caney and graduated from the Caney School System. He then attended the Coffeville Community College as well as the Coffeyville Area Votec School for two years. Dean served in the United States Army Reserves. On July 3, 1954 Dean was united in marriage to Viola Freidline in Rural Caney and they made their home in the Caney area. Viola survives at the home. Dean worked at the Funk Manufacturing Company, retiring after working there for 30 years. Dean also did farming on the home place. He was a member of the Wayside Christian Church. Survivors include his wife Viola of the home in Caney, Kansas two sons, Tim E. Rigdon and Mark C. Rigdon, both of Caney two daughters, Cindy K. Lovelace of Wann, Oklahoma and Jill Davis of Caney, Kansas two brothers, Keith Rigdon Coffeyville, Kansas, and Glen Rigdon of Bartlesville, Oklahoma three sisters, Beverly Halligan and Norma Russsell, both of Caney, Kansas and Delorse Miller of Rodgers, Arkansas seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
