Marvin L. Jones Sr., 68, of Independence died Wednesday at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Community Christian Church in Independence, Kansas with the Reverends Milton Jones and Don Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. at the Potts Chapel, Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Hospice of Coffeyville, Kansas or the Community Christian Church of Independence, Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel, Independence, Kansas. Marvin was born July 24, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Alva and Wilma Dill Jones. He grew up in Independence attending the Independence school system as well as Independence Community College studying Business Administration. On December 11, 1965 Marvin was united in marriage to Judy Leahew. They later divorced. On May 4, 1991 in Fredonia, Kansas Marvin was united in marriage to LaRita Taylor Berger and the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas. LaRita survives at the home. Marvin was a Supervisor of the Sanitation Department for the City of Independence, retiring after 20 years of service. Marvin was a member and elder of the Community Christian Church and he was a member of GWRA Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Survivors include his wife LaRita Jones of the home two sons, Marvin Lynn Jones Jr. and Michael Lee Jones of Independence, Ks. two step sons, Earl Gene Berger Jr. of Oklahoma City and Rodney Dean Berger of Grand Junction, Colo. one daughter, Michelle Larhee Gillman of Coffeyville, Ks. two step daughters, Lori Diane Borton of Hutchinson, Ks. and Judy Leanne Hilyard of Topeka, Ks. 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
