Martha Thompson Neumeier

Martha Ann Bane Thompson Neumeier, 78, of Clarksville, AR, peacefully passed away on August 22, 2022 surrounded by her family and holding her daughter’s hand.

Martha was born on February 22, 1944, to Albert Bane and Mildred Schafer in Salina, KS.  She graduated from Salina Central High School in 1962.

In 1967, Martha met Terry Thompson while working at Bank of America in Salina, KS.  Martha and Terry married in 1969 and moved to Cherryvale, Kansas where they resided until 1990. When the Thompson family sold Peoples State Bank in Cherryvale they moved to Independence, KS, where Terry passed away in 1994.  She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale, and St. Andrews Catholic Church in Independence.  They had two children, Jay Thompson of Fayetteville, AR and Brooke Kopp of Phoenix, AZ.

Martha continued to live in Independence where she met Ken Neumeier at St. Andrews Catholic Church, and they married in August of 2002.  Soon after, Martha and Ken moved to the Clarksville, AR area where they retired and lived in the house and property they built together.  They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary shortly before her passing.

Martha worked as a teachers aid in the Cherryvale and Independence elementary schools for many years before retiring in 2001. She was passionate about helping children and loved working with her many friends.

Martha loved people and enjoyed walking, working in her yard, cutting family and friends hair, keeping her car clean and entertaining loved ones with her signature style and flair.  She spent much of her time traveling to visit her beloved grandchildren.

Those who preceded her in death was her husband, Terry Thompson, sisters Linn, Janet and brother Mike. She is survived by her husband Ken Neumeier of Clarksville, AR, his three children Paula, Chris and Dana. She leaves behind her two children Jay Thompson (Stevie) of Fayetteville, AR, Brooke Kopp (Kevin) of Phoenix, AZ as well as her grandchildren Mac and Charlie Thompson, Annie, Anderson and Ainsley Kopp, Sarah Jones and Jacob Tribelhorn. There are many nieces, nephews and extended family members who will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Martha’s honor to Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, AR.  They further request that you hug your loved ones in her honor. Martha will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Reciting of the Rosary will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 210 N. 4th St. Independence, KS 67301 at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, August 31st. Funeral Mass will follow the Rosary at 2:00 PM with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Parish Center of St. Andrew following the service.
