Martha Johanna Mott, age 98, of Independence, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Medicallodge in Independence, Kansas.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Mackie officiating. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2018 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
The family has suggested memorials to the Independence Relay for Life or the Zion Lutheran Church and contributions may left at the Potts Chapel.
Martha Johanna Mott was born December 23, 1919 in Nottensdorf, Germany to Wilhelm and Anna Meta (Martens) Albers. At the age of 5 the family moved to Independence, Kansas. Martha grew up in Independence and graduated from the Independence High School. She also graduated from Independence Junior College with a teaching certificate.
On May 3, 1942 Martha married Elmo Rex Mott in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple later divorced in 1955. Martha worked as a teacher and later she was a typist. She also worked at Continental Can and Electra. Martha retired from Mercy hospital where she was a switch board operator. On November 24, 1967 Martha married Paul Lynam, and he preceded her in death in 1972. On October 8, 1987 Martha married Carroll Leo Mott, and he also preceded her in death on April 30, 2008. Martha loved to dance, family gatherings and gardening.
Survivors include three sons Daryl R. Mott of Wichita, Kansas, William Rex Mott of Port Chester, NY and Timothy H. Mott and wife Diana of Derby, Kansas; two daughters Marcia J. Junk and husband Don of Independence, Kansas and Gloria B. Meadows and husband Robert also of Independence, Kansas; two step children Elizabeth Bantz of Howard, Kansas and Shirley McNulty of Texas; eighteen grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren and several great-great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Barbara Colleen Mott, and three sisters Elsie Jackson, Erna Marie King - Taddiken, and Bertha W.Fowler.
