Martha Marie Black, age 87, of Elk City, Kansas died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Potts Chapel with Bruce Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Visitation hours will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2014 with the family receiving friends at the Potts Chapel.

The family has suggested memorials to the McDonalds House or St. Judes Childrens Hospital and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Martha Marie Black was born February 27, 1927 in Neodesha, Kansas to Charles Curtis and Veta Maria Stong Welch. She grew up in Elk City, Kansas and graduated from the Elk City High School in 1944.

On June 9, 1946 Marie married Grant Edison Black in Elk City, Kansas where the couple made their home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Elk City, Kansas.

Survivors include one son Dennis A. Black of Sterling, IL two daughters Theresa A. Gideon of Elk City, Kansas and Nina J. Taylor of Monett, Missouri two brothers Rex Jerry Welch of Elk City, Kansas and Kyle Welch of Independence, Kansas grandchildren Micheale L. Davis of Nixa, Mo, Angela J. Eby of Kansas City, Ks, Autumn R. Robinett of LaCygne, Ks, Crystal M. Gibfried of Rolla, Mo, Bruce J. Taylor of Stilwell, Ks, Joseph G. Gideon of Independence, Mo, Britton M. Gideon of Wichita, Ks, Benjamin L. Gideon of Wichita, Ks, Michael G. Black of Bloomington, IL, Douglas P. Black of Normal, IL, Jaime E. Peters of Bloomington, IL, Heather M. Berrocales of Normal, IL. 31 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Grant Black, two sisters Doris Burns and Laura Lou McAfee two brothers Curtis Welch and Loren Dale Welch.
