Blanche Marie Wood, age 83 of Independence, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Cherryvale Nursing & Rehabilitation.
Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Mount Hope Cemetery with the Reverend Bill Booe officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Blanche "Marie" Wood was born July 15, 1934 in Neodesha, Kansas to Charles and Roena Ebert (Carr) Garroutte. She grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School. Marie received her cosmetology degree in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
On May 24, 1952 Marie married Dale Miles Wood and the couple made their home in Rural Independence, Kansas. They owned and operated Dales TV & Repair for many years. Dale preceded her in death on March 7, 2016. They were long time members of the United Methodist Church in Sycamore, Kansas.
Survivors include three sons Mark and wife Tamar Wood of Independence, Steven and wife Kay Wood of Independence and Charles Wood of Independence; two sisters Rebecca Baker and Betty Lemon both of Independence; five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters Peggy Garroutte and Rosalie Rittenhouse.
