Marguerite Helen Short, age 94, long time Caney resident, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Medicalodge in Coffeyville, Kansas after a short illness. She enjoyed extraordinary robust physical health all her life. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 29, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Meals on Wheels and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Marguerite was born June 22, 1915 in Copan, Oklahoma, the fifth of eight children born to James Sylvester Gaddis and Meadie Walls Gaddis. She graduated from Copan High School. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Hubbard Short in April 1967. Hub and Marguerite moved from Chautauqua, Kansas to Caney, Kansas in 1946. She was a member of the Caney Southern Baptist Church and worked for many years at Burch Optometry. Marguerite is survived by her children, Jim L. Short, Jack Harrison Short both of Nowata, Oklahoma, Barbara Short Sullivan of Evergreen, Colorado, L. Dee Short and wife Jamie of Tulsa, Oklahoma and John Lee Short and wife Darlene of Fallon, Nevada. Nine Grandchildren, Cindy Short VanTrese, Kim Short Doughty, Terry Short Hawley, Kelly Short, Russell Short, Mark Short, Patrick Sullivan, Brooke Short Pratt and Christopher Short; seventeen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren; sister Freda Gaddis Brandenburg of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
