Margina Harris

January 18, 1929 — August 16, 2022

Independence

Margina Mae Harris, 93 of Independence passed away at Pittsburg Care and Rehab in Pittsburg, Kansas on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

Margina was born on January 18th, 1929, in Fort Scott, Kansas to Peter C. and Alta M. (Herron) Jacquinot. Margina attended Fort Scott High School and graduated in 1947. Then on January 15, 1949, in Arcadia, Kansas, Margina was united in marriage to Donald Harris and the couple made their home in Fort Scott. They then moved to Independence in 1960 when Donald went to work at Montgomery Ward. Margina stayed at home taking care of the housework and caring for the children. As the years moved on, Margina started caring for other children in her home. Margina was certainly a special lady; she was such a big part of so many children’s lives. God made her heart so big; she loved them all like they were her own.

Over the years, Margina spent countless hours at Elk City Lake, camping and helping care for the park. She was involved in numerous fundraisers, and part of the Pit Crew. She also enjoyed bowling, doing upholstery, and taking care of her dogs; but most of all she loved being a grandma. She loved spending time with her family, if she wasn’t cooking or baking, she was helping care for all the grandchildren.  Many will remember her famous cinnamon rolls. Margina was member of Zion Lutheran Church for 61 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Harris, brother, Peter Jacquinot, sister, Patricia Hawkins, her parents, Peter and Alta Jacquinot, grandchildren, Brandy Holt, and Kobie Price and great grandchild Cale Farris.

Her memory will carry on with her sons, Danny and wife Beverly Harris, and Larry and wife Mykka Harris, daughters, Carol and husband Tony Holt, and Donna Harris and partner Charlie Baldwin, sisters, Donna Greenfeather, and Connie Jones, 9 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence, KS on Tuesday, August 23rd, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, August 24th. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
