Margie Jean Dixon, age 72, of Independence, Kansas died Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Graveside Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Rutland Cemetery with David Henneke officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorials to the Independence Public Library or to the Donor's Choice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Margie was born March 31, 1943 in Peru, Kansas to Eugene and Margie (Cooper) Hammond. She grew up in Niotaze, Kansas and attended the Havana School System.

On August 29, 1959 Margie married Deryl Leon Dixon and the couple made their home in Cherryvale, Kansas before living in Caney, Arkansas City and moving to Independence, Kansas in 1969. Deryl preceded her in death on January 26, 2015. Margie was a homemaker and a very active room mother and participant in her children's activities in school. Margie also sold real estate for over 25 years and was a member of the Community Christian Church, Relators Association and PTA. Her children and grandchildren is where she focused much of her time and found great happiness and joy doting on each one, making sure all knew how special they were each in their own way. She also had a wonderful sense of color and design. As she and Deryl restored homes, she used her talents to beautifully decorate them. Surprising the girls with flower arrangements she made and doing craft projects with them delighted her. Her zest for life and sense of adventure were the source of many wonderful times.

Survivors include one son Kurtis Dixon and wife Kimberlee of Independence, Kansas; two daughters Tami Goad and husband William of Mulvane, Kansas and Gina (Dixon) Finney and husband Steve of Independence, Kansas; one brother Wayne Jones and wife Marilyn of Cherryvale, Kansas; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
