Marcella Balke

Marcella Marie (Steele) Balke, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Eagle Estates in Independence, Kansas.

Marcella Marie (Steele) Balke was born on June 29, 1927 to Gehardt and Frieda (Klintworth) Lessman in Independence, Kansas. Marcella married Virgil Steele on October 26, 1947 in Yuma, Arizona. After Virgil's death she married Virgil Balke on April 7, 1990 in Independence, Kansas. Marcella retired from Citizen's National Bank in 2002 after 10 years of employment. Through the years Marcella was an active member in the community, she was a member of the Independence Lion's Club, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and the Zion Lutheran School and Church.

Marcella is preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Steele, husband, Virgil Balke, parents, Gehardt and Frieda Lessman, brother, Vernon Lessman. sister, Nadine Lybarger, and daughter, Lois Steele.

Marcella's memory will carry on with her sons, Trent Balke of Houston, TX, Scott Balke of The Woodlands, TX, sister, Dolores Schmidt, and with her 4 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 16th at Zion Lutheran Church from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with funeral services following at 10:00 am, also at Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope-Lutheran Cemetery in Independence, KS. Memorial contributions may be left in Marcella's name to Zion Lutheran School and may be left with Potts Chapel.
