Mamie E. Tabor Ward, 92, of Independence passed away in her home on June 23, 2014.
Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday June 27, 2014 at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence with the Reverend Terry Hatfield officiating.
Burial will follow the service under the direction of the Potts Chapel, Independence.
The family has suggested memorials to the First Christian Church, in Independence and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
Mamie was born on June 6, 1922 in Neodesha, Kansas the daughter of Alva and Cora Hare Tabor. She grew up in Neodesha and graduated from the Neodesha High School in 1940.
On July 10, 1941 Mamie was united in marriage to Clyde E. Ward, Sr. The couple made their home in Independence. Clyde preceded her in death in December of 1991.
Mamie worked at ACC Automotive now Standard Motors until she retired after 25 plus years of employment there.
She was a Life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Independence and a life member of the First Christian Church of Independence.
Survivors include her son, David A. Ward, two daughters Dana Ward Robinson and husband Robert of Independence, Ks. Connie West Schlottman and husband David of Gardina, Ca.
Grandchildren include Michael E. Ward Lavon of Sanford, NC., Kimberly D. Ward Shakal Roger of Chippewa Falls, WI. , David B. Ward of Independence, Missy Bybee of Wichita, Tina Nickle Rich, and Cassie Mitchell of Independence 17 Great Grandchildren and one greatgreatgrandaughter.
Mamie was preceded in death by two sons Clyde E. Ward Jr., Pensacola, FL and Randy D. Ward of Topeka, Ks., and one grandson, Kendall W. Ward of Wichita, three sisters Thyra Sanderson, Christine Washabaugh, and Carol Lee Smelley and a brother Kenneth L. Sanders.
