Independence

Macie “Pauline” Lewis, Independence, passed away on Wednesday, January 27th, 2021 at her home. A celebration of life will be held Monday, February 1st, 2021 at the First Baptist Church at 10:00am. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 31st, 2021 at Potts Chapel, 3:00pm-6:00pm. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church and can be left with the funeral home.

Macie Pauline Lewis was born July 24, 1935 in St. Clair, Missouri. She was the daughter of Wayne Oscar and Blanche Lee (Hemker) Tate. She was raised in St. Clair and graduated high school in 1953. After high school, she attended Missouri State University, graduating in 1957 with her Teaching/Physical Education Degree. On December 21st, 1957, she married the love of her life, Harvey Lewis in St. Clair. After a year of teaching, they moved to Independence, Kansas where Harvey began working for Sinclair Oil.

Pauline loved to play fastpitch softball in her younger years and continued to play competitive softball until her early 40s. Later she was an avid bowler, achieving many trophies and awards. She also enjoyed golfing. Her and Harvey sang in a gospel quartet named the “Gospel Heirs”. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and two sisters: Beulah Gratzer and Bernice Eads.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Harvey, her brother Wayne Oscar Tate of St. Clair, children: Harvey (Teresa) Lewis Jr., Michael (Debbie) Lewis, and Debra Van De Veer, grandchildren: Samantha Lewis, Christopher Lewis, John (Michelle) Lewis, Tonya LInn, Heather Tilley, Travis Van De Veer, Tori (Brian) Gorman, Tristen Van De Veer, and Remington Van De Veer, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
