Lydia Stelting, age 91 of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Regal Estates in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Darren Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Lydia was born February 26, 1919 in Corn, Oklahoma to Henry and Helen Boese Kroeker. She grew up in Corn, Oklahoma and graduated from the Corn High School. Lydia then attended the Wichita Business School in Wichita, Kansas. On July 12, 1942 Lydia married Edd Stelting in Wichita, Kansas the couple made their home in rural Elk City, Kansas. Edd preceded her in death on November 28, 1991. Lydia was a homemaker, a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Family Community Extension Gingham Apron and the Mid America Dairy Association. Survivors include two sons James K. Stelting of Independence, Kansas and Donald E. Stelting of Colorado Springs, Colorado two daughters Cynthia G. Weaver of Independence, Kansas and Carol S. Newkirk of Paola, Kansas one brother Robert Kroeker of Eugene, Oregon three sisters Marie Stelting of Corn, Oklahoma, Vivian Kliewer of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Martha Allison of Wichita, Kansas eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
