Lue Edith "Edie" Smith, 94, of Independence, KS passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Medicalodges of Independence, KS.
Graveside services will be 1:00pm, Monday, October 8, 2018 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Visitation will be Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Potts Chapel. The family will receive friends during this time.
Lue Edith Smith was born July 14, 1924 in Yellville, AR. She was the daughter of Joseph and Birdie (Sanders) Keeter. Edie attended school in Yellville, graduating from Yellville High School. On February 29, 1939, Edie was united in marriage to Guy Carter in Eloi, AZ. They made their home in upper New York and Southern California. Guy passed away in 1972. She then married Darrell Smith in 1974, before moving to Independence, KS. in 1996.
Edie was Vice President of Southern California Motion Picture Council for several years. She also worked as an inspector of care homes while living in California. Edie also appeared in the movie AMOS with Kirk Douglas, Elizabeth Montgomery and Pat Morita. She loved working with the movie stars and with her job on the council. Edie liked to cook, entertain family and friends, travel and enjoyed playing slot machines. Edie loved to shop and spend time with her loving family especially her grandchildren.
Edie is survived by her daughter Judy Gaylyne Taylor and husband Michael of Independence, KS., son Kenneth J Carter and wife Janice of Ventura, CA., 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Darrell Eugene, her parents, son Guy Cater Jr., sister Ida "Verdie" Jump, 4 brothers: Thurman Keeter, Hersel Keeter, Sheril Keeter and J C Keeter. Memorials can be made in Edie's name to the Alzheimer's Association and be left with Potts Chapel of Independence. On line condolences can be left for the family by going to www.pottsfuneralhome.com
