Lorna K Beam age 73 of Independence passed away on November 8, 2019 at St Johns Medical Center.
Lorna was born on February 22, 1946 in Fredonia to Loren and Verna (Myers) Smith. The family made their home in Burlington where Lorna attended grammar school and graduated from Burlington High School. After high school Lorna married longtime friend and the love of her life Danny Beam, the couple had met when she was five when they moved next door in Burlington. The couple was blessed with a son and a daughter. Shortly after their union, Danny enlisted in the United States Navy, he was stationed at Long Beach, California. After his honorable discharge the couple made their home in Neodesha and then in Canada, North Carolina, back to Neodesha, and finally settling down in Independence. Lorna’s main love and job was caring for the day to day operations of the home, raising her family and making sure that everyone and everything was taken care of to the best of her ability was top priority. While in Canada, Lorna took pride in her job as a picker at an apple orchard. In Neodesha she operated the Busy Bee Daycare for a number of years. In her free time, Lorna enjoyed crafting, sewing, reading, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, painting and shopping. Lorna was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and she loved teaching children about Jesus. Lorna was a warm soul that genuinely cared for every human beings’ welfare. She was always giving, anytime someone would visit they were going to be leaving with something that she had made or bought to brighten someone’s day. With Lorna, her family was most important.
Lorna’s memories will be cherished by husband Danny Beam, son Curt Beam his wife Richele, daughter Melody Sturgeon her husband Vernal, brothers, Floyd Smith his wife Mildred, Gary Smith his wife Marian, and Mike Smith, sisters Peggy Hawley her husband Glen and Clara Leavitt her husband Garld, grandchildren, Britni Lawrence, Zac Sturgeon, Carli Sturgeon, Gaige Beam, Codi Davisson, and Colt McCammon, and great-grandchildren, Chase, Tristin, Jewel, Kensely, C.J., Ariah, Tre'Juan, Ella, Coltan, Bri'Lyn and Easton.
She now rests with her parents, infant brother Robert Smith, infant sister Barbara Smith, and grandson Damon Beam.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10:00am at the First Southern Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Potts Chapel from 6:00pm to 8:00pm The family suggests memorials be made payable to the First Southern Baptist Church Children's Fund.
