Lorene Unruh

Lorene Thelma Unruh age 100 passed away with her family by her side on June 3, 2016 at Montgomery Place.

Lorene was born on June 8, 1915 in Goltry, OK to Albert and Elizabeth (Kroeker) Janes. She attended country schools and finished her schooling at Goltry High School. After high school she met and later married Dewey Unruh on December 27, 1933, they made their home in Goltry until they moved to Independence in 1943 where Dewey worked at the Independence Army Air force Airbase. The couple was blessed with four sons Earl, Don, Derrill and Mike and a two daughters Sharon and Mary. Lorene worked for Mercy Hospital as a nurse's aide where she devoted 29 years of service. Her favorite duty was helping in the nursery where she would rock and care for all the babies. Following the untimely death of her husband, Dewey, in 1973 Lorene picked up the pieces of her life and dedicated herself to her family, her faith and her community. She retired in 1985, her retirement was filled with travel, quilting, card playing, especially canasta, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and serving the Zion Lutheran Church. Lorene was an avid sports fan Lorene was the matriarch of the family, always gathering them together and caring for them. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Mike Unruh his wife Susan, Earl Unruh his wife Barbara Jean, Donald Unruh his wife Barbara Ann, and Derrill Unruh, daughter Mary Robinson her husband Ed, sisters Marie Buller and Helen Pekrul, 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Clyde, Lester, Faye, and Leonard, sister, Mabel and a daughter Sharon Rorick.
Please join the family in celebrating a life well lived on what would be her 101st birthday on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Potts Chapel at 2:00 pm under the direction of Potts Chapel. Friends are invited to sign the register and share memories with the family on Tuesday June 7, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The family suggests memorials to Montgomery Place Residents Activities Fund.
