Lola Ohmes, Independence, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 9th, 2021 at Montgomery Place. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 27th, 2021 at 12:00pm at Potts Chapel.
Lola was born on October 3rd, 1942 in Independence, Kansas. She was the daughter of Holmer Carl and Virginia Edna (Certain) Hawk. She graduated Elk City High School in 1960. Lola worked as a CNA at the area nursing homes and hospital early in her life in Independence. Lola worked at Raytheon Aircraft in Wichita, KS from 1987 till her retirement, after 18 years in 2004. After retirement, she volunteered at a local nursing home and the Susan B. Allen Hospital in Eldorado, KS. She was voted “the Volunteer of the year” for the hospital in September 2020. She was diagnosed with ALS in January 2021 and moved in with her son Dennis High in February 2021 in Independence, KS until her health declined rapidly and moved to Montgomery Place in May of 2021.
She enjoyed taking walks, quilting and playing Farkle and BINGO. She also loved spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers: Carl Hawk and Mike Hawk and bother-in-law Delbert Davis.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: Dennis (Kimberly) High and John (Tish) High; grandchildren: Chanel (Gradey) Atkinson, Kylie (Corey) Graham, Gabbie (Jonny) Hyde and Miranda High; great-grandchildren: David and Logan Atkinson, Claire and Kailynn Graham, Leilani Hyde and Joaquin Lomeli; sisters: Donna (Kerry) Bright, Beverly Davis, Vickie Ray and Rhonda (Will) Selman; brothers: Charles (Janis) Hawk and Richard Hawk.
