Lois Marcella Venable age 91, of Independence, Kansas died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6:007:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Andrews Catholic School or the Linn Lane Baptist Church Building Fund and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Lois was born March 23, 1921 in Liberty, Kansas to Harvey and Mary McDonald Kelley. She grew up in Labette and Montgomery County. She graduated from Altamont High School Lois then attended two years at Pittsburg Teachers College. Lois taught all eight grades of elementary school at Liberty and Labette, Kansas. She then moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked at Gates Rubber Company. She married Walter Lee Venable on November 8, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas. They moved to New Castle, Wyoming, where she worked as a waitress. They moved to Denver, Colorado, where she was a housewife and sold Avon. They then moved to Kimble, Nebraska, and then Yates Center, Kansas where they owned and operated Motels. In the Mid 1960s the couple moved to Independence, Kansas and worked at the Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas. Lois then went to work at City Pub where she retired. Survivors include one daughter Pam Ysusi and husband Phillip of Independence, Kansas one son Gary and wife Dana Venable of Tulsa, Oklahoma five grandchildren 3 great grandchildren.
