Lois Catherine Belt, age 91, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at her home in Independence, Kansas.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Pastor Grady Miller, of the Bolton Friends Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Bolton Friends Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
Lois Catherine Belt was born April 19, 1923 to Edward A. and Pearl Moyer Thompson. She attended Coal Creek and Independence Schools, graduating in 1942.
On June 14, 1942 she married Orman Belt. They lived in Wichita where Mr. Belt was employed at Boeing Aircraft. When he was called to Military Service, she moved back to Independence where she worked at Cases Gift Shop. After her husband completed military service they moved to Parsons, Kansas where he was employed by the Katy Railroad. In 1957, they moved back to Independence where they opened The Belts Shoe Shop, which they operated until retirement. Orman preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son Larry and his wife Janice Belt of Spring, Texas, 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son Ronnie.
